What are Portal/ GAP days?

I like to remind myself and others of Portal/ GAP days, but why and what are they?

My information is based on my own (and others) experiences and German sources, where they are referred to as “Portaltage”. Portal Days are the literal translation. In the English language, they are also referred to as GAP (Galactic Activation Portal) days. I’m using both terms interchangeably.

Background information

Portal Days are calculated based on the Tzolk’in Mayan Calendar. I’ve included the 2019 (update: 2022) overview at the bottom of this page. I started adding them to my online agenda, so I can put my experiences of those days into perspective. It has happened too often that I was asking myself what the heck is going on, just to find out later, that it was a portal day. Things make a lot more sense when you know!

What happens on a Portal/ GAP day?

Most people would tell you that the veil between the worlds or dimensions is thinner on those days. That’s an explanation or description that’s not necessarily insightful. So let me give you my take on it:

Universal energy is very high on those days, and people react differently to this influence. Each GAP day is also different, so you might find yourself reacting to them differently while you’re moving through them throughout the year.

You might find yourself extremely exhausted, highly emotional, or easily triggered. It can come seemingly out of nowhere, and you might be questioning why you’re reacting that way. Because it’s a GAP day, that’s why!

While sometimes confronting and challenging, great insights can be gained on and from those days. Think of it as days when stuff comes up that wants to be released and let go of. It’s not always pretty, but oh so worth it!

My experiences

I’m pretty sure some Portal Days passed without me even noticing it, also not in hindsight. Now that I make a point of knowing it before, I experience them with more awareness and am more compassionate towards myself and others.

The GAP days in April 2019 (the year I wrote this article) were extraordinarily intense for me. A lot of factors contributed to me having a very low and dark time that felt very strange to me. Only by the end of it, did I realize the connection to the Portal Days, which helped me to place this whole experience.

Going through these days gave me some very important and deep insights about myself that brought me much more clarity and helped me to align myself more with whom I truly am.

How to best move through them

My Motto is to move through whatever is presented, and GAP days are no different. If anything, it’s even more important on those days.

  • Stay aware and present
Whatever is coming up for you, does so for a reason. It wants to be felt, looked at, and experienced. Do that and don’t push it away.
  • Practice compassion and kindness
High energy and potentially intense experiences — it’s a good time to be extra nice towards yourself and others.
  • Take rest and focus on yourself
It’s a good time to spend time with yourself to actually feel and be present. Any healing or introspection work with others or by yourself might be a good idea too.
